Are you upset about something? A Course in Miracles says that we are never upset for the reason we think.
The Greek philosopher, Epictetus, writes in his famous manual that "People are agitated and disturbed, not by things, but by the opinions they have about things."
It is our thoughts and beliefs about something that cause our feelings more so than the actual thing itself. If we're able to observe this behavior in ourselves and be aware of this tendency, we can then begin to examine our beliefs and opinions. This is a major step in our evolvement as a spiritual being.
What are you upset about now? What thought, belief, or opinion is behind the feelings that you are experiencing with regard to the situation?
This is in line with my quote,
"It just is. The rest is your story."
Our thoughts and beliefs weave those stories. If you allow, they create suffering.
On the other hand, if you become aware, you can catch this red-handed, have a good laugh and let it go.
