When my husband and I lived in Chicago, we used to go to a place called "Dog Beach." This beach on Lake Michigan was named by the many dog owners who would take their dogs there to frolic and play with one another. It was always a fun place to go and watch the action.
There were dogs of all kinds, shapes, sizes and colors. The canines ran up and greeted one another, welcoming the newcomers into their midst. There would be the obligatory sniffing and then the introduction was complete and the play would begin. Games of tag seemed to be the norm, as one dog would run after the other, dashing through the water and rolling around in the sand.
The dogs didn't care what breed their playmates were, if they were purebred or mutts. They didn't care what color they were--black or white or spotted. The big dogs played with the small ones and they shared their toys with one another.
As I watched them play, I couldn't help wondering why we humans can't get along as well as those dogs.
